glimmerThe University of Hull is to become the title sponsor of GLIMMER: The Hull International Short Film Festival in a partnership between the two organisations announced today. The renowned short film festival, which will run from 19th-25th April 2010, will bring a selection of screenings and special events to the University campus whilst showing off a number of eclectic and exciting screenings across the city in venues such as the Reel Hull Screen

If you would like your film to be considered for GLIMMER: The 8th Hull International Short Film Festival, then be quick as the deadline is Friday 5th February. For more information, visit www.hullfilm.co.uk where you’ll be able to download an entry form with everything that you need to know regarding entry rules and application criteria.

The University of Hull and GLIMMER have previously worked together to present the Anthony Minghella Awards for Best International and UK Short. The University will continue to sponsor the awards whilst developing the relationship that has been built up between the institutions over the past few years. With special ticket offers for University of Hull students, screenings on campus and many other special events planned, GLIMMER: The 8th Hull International Short Film Festival presented by the University promises to be the most successful ever. Films already scheduled for the Anthony Minghella Award for Best UK Short include Curtains a dark comedy that marks the co-directorial debut of Julian ‘The Mighty Boosh’ Barratt

Glimmer Director Laurence Boyce said:

“GLIMMER: The 8th Hull International Short Film Festival presented by the University of Hull represents an exciting partnership between two organisations that show Hull is an important hub for arts, education and culture. With an aim to appeal to both students and audiences from Hull and beyond, GLIMMER is a perfect example of the University of Hull’s commitment to supporting the arts in the region.”

Professor George Talbot, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Media at the University said:

“We are delighted to be supporting the GLIMMER awards which will undoubtedly showcase the region’s film making talent to maximum effect. Anthony Minghella was an inspiration to his fellow students and colleagues and his work will continue to inspire many generations to come.”
