intro
The art of animation, being displayed so successfully at present in Shrek has been deemed worthy of a category in the Oscars.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have finally announced the conditions for inclusion in the running for Best Animated Feature. The first of two separate Oscar should be presented for the first time next year, but the new Oscars will be presented only to "the key creative talent most clearly responsible for the overall achievement."

At least eight eligible animated features must be produced during the year. Each must be at least 70 minutes long, they must feature a significant number of animated characters, and animated scenes must account for at least 75 percent of the running time.
