Reuters reported last week that Guy Ritchie's second feature, Snatch is the most pirated film on the Internet.
The B and C list gangster flick from the Hertfordshire filmmaker was downloaded onto around a million computers worldwide last month alone. The US anti-piracy research company, Mediaforce released figures to the London based news agency along with the runners up in the most snatched list. The top ten web-pirated movies include the recently released Tomb Raider, Shrek and Peal Harbor.
The accompanying report on web piracy of features focused on Hollywood's susceptibility to piracy and the damage it causes to legitimate revenues. Pirates film the blockbusters with Digital Cameras, some times on opening might before the footage is copied onto a PC and uploaded.
Mediaforce chief exec Aaron Fessler noted, "It demonstrates that online movie piracy is a very real threat to the movie production industry, especially when three of our top ten are current, first-run productions. The films haven't been released yet on DVD or VHS. But then we realised that people must be taking digital camcorders into films."
