The radio commercials company Eardrum is launching the UK's first product placement company completely dedicated to motion pictures.
The Guardian newspaper reported on Wednesday that Eardrum, which already has relationships with such media and commercial titans as Warner Bros., Pathé, Coca Cola and Burger King have named their product placement arm, Earmark. They plan to meet with writers and producers early in the development of a script to write products into the films, like the famous placing of FedEx in Castaway but that some could be inserted digitally during post production. Earmark chief Steve Switzman told the paper that he believes product placement is an under-exploited area of advertising in the U.K. and "represents a massive growth opportunity."
