Sue Ellen Ewing aka Linda Gray is to be the next Mrs Robinson in the enormously successful West End production of The Graduate.
Fifty year-old Linda Gray, best known for herportrayal of JR Ewing's tormented wife in the 80's US soap Dallas, will replace Ann Archer in the role of Benjamin's seductress. The soap ran for eleven years and Gray took the role after a successful career as a model that culminated in her silk clad, extended leg being used for the famous poster for Mike Nichols' 1967 film.
Gray will take over the role, previously occupied by Archer, Jerry Hall and Kathleen Turner, on October 1 - that's 34 years after that revealing shot touched the libidos of so many adolescent males.
Ann Bancroft's superb performance in the film earned her a deserved Oscar but the show, at the Gielgud Theatre on Soho's Shaftesbury Avenue, continues to draw a crowd. Terry Johnson's production has broken the theatre's previous record with £8.5m at the box office in 18 months.
