New York Attempts Business As Usual
Although the terror stricken city will take some time to get back to any semblance of normality, Mayor Rudi Giuliani has begun to allow productions recommence or begin production.
Filming ceased immediately a fortnight ago but as permits are available, the mayor's office cannot open all doors until it can free up enough of its police force. Variety quoted Pat Scott, New York's head of The Office of Theatre, Film and Broadcasting, "The mayor wants all business back and running, and we think we can do it. By the time productions such as Men in Black 2, Spider-Man and Stuart Little 2 come back to the city, we'll be ready for them."

An interesting example of the mood in the Big Apple is that the owners of most of the city's radio stations, Clear Channel, have issued a list of some 150 songs that they have deemed unfit for airtime. Of the most startling are John Lennon's peace anthem, Imagine and Louis Armstrong's equally humanitarian, What a Wonderful World. The Beatles took a hammering as a result of unfortunate lyrics within Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (Life goes on), Ticket to Ride and Back in the USSR.
Many stations simply ignored the mandate.
