According to this week's Screen International, Cannes' artistic director Thierry Fremaux will appoint a UK based scout to boost the country's representation at the festival.
After damning press commentary regarding the lack of British features at this year's film festival, Fremaux seems too have extended 'an olive branch' to the British film industry.
A similar plan is already in place for the German film industry which hasn't had a film in competition for approaching ten years and both moves are also serving improve ties between the respective industries and the world's biggest and best fest.
Fremaux expressed his feelings about this year's lack of British talent in the article, "Gilles Jacob (festival director) and I were very sad because we wanted UK cinema to be represented at Cannes this year. British cinema is very strong and important and we want to work with it."
His intentions seem pretty clear and smacks of diplomacy as much as anything, "I want to go to London just to think and to talk to people. I want to explore who the young talents are and who the young producers are."
The call for regional film was also clear, "Maybe the future I not in London but I places like Liverpool or Wales. I do not want to miss out on anything about UK cinema."
Fremaux is expected to touch down in London in November to begin discussions with industry heavyweights and to begin his search for his insider.
