The fest takes place from November 12 to 15 but if you hope to meet this promising director I'm afraid you'll be disappointed - Tina sadly can't make it. Closer has been blown up to glorious 35 but to get the full affect of Tina's film you'll want to badger the projectionist to whack up the sound. Closer is Gharavi's highly experimental directorial debut. Produced without a script it's a study of a 17 year old Lesbian from Newcastle who uses her own life as a starting point for the film. The film was raved about at Sundance in January, here's some comments: "...takes documentary film to the next level," Sundance programmer Shari Frilot. "...Tina Gharavi's Closer overlays a dialogue concerning lesbian visibility with cityscapes rendered in both gritty, verite style and more sumptuous textures, to point out the roles that formal elements themselves play in the politics of visibility." Shannon Kelley, Sundance Programmer. For more info check out the Shorts International Film Festival website http://www.shorts.org or email info@shorts.org |
