Once Upon a Time at the Film Council
The Film Council's New Cinema Fund has announced its investment of UKP690,000 in FilmFour and New Cinema Fund's Once Upon a Time in the Midlands, the latest feature by acclaimed young British writer/director Shane Meadows.

The film, co-written by Paul Fraser, has just completed a busy six-week shooting schedule in and around Nottingham with an impressive cast including: Robert Carlyle, Rhys Ifans, Kathy Burke, Shirley, Ricky and cameos from Vic Reeves and Mortimer and Vanessa Feltz.

The tale is that of Dek whose idea of a tug of love is deciding between his girlfriend Shirley or his Ford Sierra. That is, until Shirley's ex Jimmy rides into town with bags of cash, charisma and a wicked left hook. The scene's set for a showdown, and an unlikely hero emerges.

The film is produced by Andrea Calderwood of Slate Films and is financed by FilmFour, the New Cinema Fund, Senator Film and East Midlands Media Initiative. The project was developed at FilmFour by James Wilson who serves as co-producer along with Louise Knight. Executive producers are Paul Webster, Hanno Huth and Paul Trijbits. FilmFour will distribute in the UK and is handling international sales. Senator Film is handling German distribution.
