Trade Granddaddy Variety magazine have reported that the Beeb are to merge its international news ops, BBC World and the veteran wireless programme BBC World Service.
The new operation, which includes their superlative online news service, will be headed by World Service chief, Mark Byford, with all news content supplied by BBC News - again, a publicly funded limb.
Greg "Shears" Dyke said, The BBC's global role is of huge importance and significance, never more so than at this time of conflict." He did not comment on the public broadcaster's birthright advantages over its news competitor, given these plans.
