Sam Mendes has announced that he will quit his post as artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse.
He will leave the Covent Garden theatre next Christmas after 10 years as artistic director.
His departure was expected after his two-year sabbatical to make American Beauty, for which he won enormous critical acclaim and the best director Oscar.
