British DoP Douglas Slocombe will be awarded the International Achievement Award from the American Society Of Cinematographers (ASC) at their annual Outstanding Achievement Awards in mid February.
Slocombe, who ranks up alongside fellow Brits Jack Cardiff and Freddie Francis as one of the world's finest masters of light, has worked with the cream of cinemas directorial talent including, Spielberg, Planski, Huston and Cukor.
Such titles as The Lavendar Hill Mob, Kind Hearts And Coronets, The Italian Job and the Indiana Jones trilogy have earned the 78 year old, former journalist, WWII cameraman and stills photographer respect from talent and film fans the world over.
After the war, Slocombe worked at Ealing Studios for 17 years on scores of classic comedies before going freelance in the early 60's. He has won three Academy Awards (Cardiff, astonishingly won just one for Black Narcissus and Francis one for Sons and Lovers) for the Graham Greene adaptation of Travels with my Aunt, Julia and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
