Better Things To Come From The North

Duane Hopkins’ feature-length screenplay Better Things developed through the Northern Production Fund SOURCES 2 programme, has received high praise from course tutor Colin Tucker, who described the script as "better than Lyn Ramsay’s Ratcatcher".

SOURCES gave Hopkins a special award to develop the script further.

Meanwhile Hopkins has directed a short, The Field, for Carlton Television. The film was produced by Samm Hailley and co-produced by A Third and International Media Productions, with Northern Production Fund backing.

The Field concerns a group of disaffected youths who head out into the country and destroy a flock of sheep. The film is based on a real-life event and is shot in Dogme fashion – natural lighting, hand-held camera and natural use of sound.
