Father, the latest feature from Amber Films is getting
a spring national release, following preview screenings
in January and very positive reviews at the London Film
Festival, where it premiered.
The January screenings were to a very special audience,
the East Durham communities the film portrays. Amber has
been documenting the lives of working people in the North
East since it was founded over thirty years ago, both
in documentary and dramatic forms.
With a strong commitment to nurturing latent natural talent,
Amber took the bold step of casting people with no previous
acting experience in each of the three main roles, spanning
three generations of one family.
Set in East Durham, the film portrays this family in crisis,
focusing on the dislocations of grandfather, father and
son. The three separate, but essentially integrated worlds
unfold against the rich and extraordinary backdrop of
East Durham landscapes and locations.
Time Out reviewer Geoff Andrews has already praised the
producers, saying "Amber are to be cherished as an
enduring highlight of Britains cinematic landscape."
