The
retrospective of work by the Newcastle-based filmmaker
Amber is soon to be seen in New York, where it will be
shown at the Lincoln Centre, before touring venues right
across the States.
The retrospective was launched at the National Film Theatre
before being picked up by the British Council to exhibit
overseas.
The films have been touring France and in Germany during
February. The retrospective includes Seacoal, T. Dan
Smith and two of their Durham coalfield drama trilogy
Eden Valley and the award-winning The Scar.
The third drama of the trilogy, Like Father,
was recently completed and test-screened. It will be seen
on BBC2 next year.
Amber Films has been documenting the lives of working
people in the Northeast since it was founded in 1969.
