York Indie Festival Latest

Blood Kiss Premieres

There’s been a change of dates for the first York Independent Film Festival, which is now to be held on the weekend May 19th-20th at York Student Cinema, York University, England.

The festival organisers plan to be screening a broad range of high quality independent films from around the world on two screens over the weekend, with additional events taking place between showings.

The organisers are arranging screening of 50 entries, whittled down from over 200 submissions, which is a good level of entry for a first ever festival. Standard of entries is reported to be high. Screenings will take place over two days, with a closing ceremony after the closing film, at which awards will be made and presented.

It can never be an easy ride organising a film festival from scratch, but this festival is a remarkable achievement, given that it has been pulled together very quickly and with 100% volunteer labour. One suspects a secret weapon may have been involved in the form of Adam Amara, who, in a previous life in California last year helped to organise the Golden Calf Awards at the University of Davis.

Northern Exposure understands that Adam’s dedication and enthusiasm was infectious and rapidly mobilised the student workforce. All power to them and we wish them a very good festival indeed.

Full programme has not yet been revealed and will appear on the festival website soon, but one film selected for premiere at the festival is Blood Kiss, Emmy- winning writer Alex P. Michaels' digital feature. It is described as a subtle, film noir, vampyre movie, more concerned with the characters, and their dark desires rather than the flow of blood. Blood Kiss stars Nina Angeloff, Simon Lovell, and
Annie Sherman.

York IFF admission is £6 a day or £10 for the weekend, including entry to films
which will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis.
For concessions charges are reduced to £3 per day or £5 for the weekend.

However patrons should note the festival is unable to admit anyone under 12 years old.
