Second Film For Glasgow Producers

THREE Glasgow film makers behind the acclaimed Late Night Shopping have revealed that they are to start on a second film project in collaboration with FilmFour.

At Cannes Film Festival Angus Lamont, the producer who heads the Glasgow-based production company Ideal World Films, said scriptwriter Jack Lothian, director Saul Metzstein and himself are to join forces again.

This time they will work on a new £3 million film project called Northern Soul.

The film is a romantic comedy based around the misadventures of a group of young people who travel to Blackpool in the depths of winter for a night of dancing and partying to their favourite music, northern soul.

Script for Northern Soul is in the early stages, but it is hoped that filming will begin next January.

Mr Lamont said: "I'm delighted that Saul, Jack and I can work together again on a project about a part of the British music scene that we all love."

Retaining the talent from Late Night shopping was also part of the deal, as Angus Lamont explains: "Late Night Shopping shows that Jack Lothian and Saul Metzstein are two of the most exciting young prospects in British film. We really wanted to keep the relationship between the writer and director going rather than have them being snapped up by some bigger production company in London. I believe the decision to invest in this project shows our ambitions."

Ideal World Films is the film production arm of independent production company Ideal World which was founded by broadcaster Muriel Gray more than ten years ago.

The film arm was set up in 1997 and Late Night Shopping was its first feature film. It was made on a budget of £1.5 million and will be distributed across the UK on 22 June by FilmFour Distributors.

The comedy is about sex and shelf stacking, and stars a cast of relative unknowns including Luke De Woolfson, James Lance, Kate Ashfield and Enzo Cilenti.

Mr Lamont is confident that once released the film will strike a chord with cinema-goers around the world.
