Boyle says more Lottery money should be given
to films made outside London.
Boyle says too much of the industry is centred
in London.
He was speaking at the Edinburgh Film Festival
where his two new TV dramas are being shown.
"The Lottery money just gets soaked up in London,"
he says. "More money should be given to Scotland
and Manchester."
Strumpet and Vacuuming Completely Nude
In Paradise are single dramas which will be
shown on the BBC later in the year. Boyle says
he would like to do more TV drama.
"It depends on the scripts. My dad's not bothered
about my films - he'd rather watch stuff on telly
so he's delighted I've done this," he says.
"I've decided to do two films because I wanted
to deliver two for the price of one. I wanted
to get some energy back into TV drama which seems
to be in a bit of a crisis - especially in Britain.
But rather than bemoaning the absence of TV drama,
it's more important to refresh it. I hope these
films inspire people to go out and make their
own."
Boyle's next project is 28 Days Later, written
by Alex Garland who wrote The Beach. Boyle revealed
he's just finished a technical recce and has already
assembled his cast, which includes Christopher
Ecclestone.
