Actor
Ricky Tomlinson caused a stir when he arrived
at the premiere of his latest film, Mike
Bassett: England Manager - with a close
friend in a Liz Hurley-style dress.
The Royle Family star was cheered
on by crowds in Londons Leicester Square,
but was almost upstaged by Fat Les singer Keith
Allen.
Shedding his usual outfit, the maverick actor
donned an outrageous dress modelled on the famous
safety pin design that launched the career of
Liz Hurley and a pair of false breasts.
Mr Allen said: "This is an exact copy of Liz Hurleys
dress and it obviously works because everyone
is pointing their camera at me."
The film tells the story of Mike Bassett, the
fictional manager of Norwich City, who finds himself
taking on "the most important job in football"
- leading the England team into the World Cup.
Lifelong Liverpool fan Tomlinson joked that since
filming the role he had received a number of offers
to ditch acting for a career in the beautiful
game.
"But if I take over, the first thing I will do
will be to appoint a new team hairdresser. Some
of the England lads haircuts are a disgrace.
Among the other guests at last nights premiere
were two of the girl group Atomic Kitten.
