McGregor Tipped For Bawdy Bard Double

Ewan McGregor is being tipped to star in a biopic about Robert Burns. The film, Red Rose, will be shot in Edinburgh and Perthshire next spring.

Sean Connery is thought to be considering a cameo role as Burns's father.Robbie Moffatt will direct from a screenplay by Rob Roy writer Alan Sharp.

McGregor recently finished making Ridley Scott's real-life action movie Black Hawk Down in Africa. A friend of McGregor's says "He feels very honoured at the thought of playing Burns on screen."

Ewan McGregor says he's looking forward to his next film because it contains lots of sex scenes.

McGregor will star in Young Adam which highlights the work of Scottish poet Alexander Trochi The film is due to begin shooting in Scotland in March next year. Production was put back from September, partly because a number of investors were put off by the nature of the movie.

It tells the story of a loner who becomes embroiled in a murder mystery while travelling on a barge. He told Elaine C Smith, in an appearance on her BBC chatshow to go out on November 23, this would be the most eye-opening movie he had ever made and will include the most graphic sex scenes he has ever filmed.

"The film is just a lot of sex on a barge in the 50s. Nice. I've never been shy about this sort of thing," he says.

It will be the first film Ewan McGregor has done in Scotland for five years.
