A new documentary production scheme for both
new and existing talent is to commission single
documentaries within one overall strand.
Any aspiring documentary maker with a great
idea but no documentary experience should not
be put off applying. The schemes backers
are pledged to put together production teams
to make the best ideas happen.
This Scotland 2002 will be co-produced by Scottish
TV, Grampian TV and Scottish Screen.
The initiative for This Scotland came from
a seminar held at the Edinburgh International
Film Festival when it was suggested that a scheme
for documentary makers - similar to the New
Found Land scheme for drama producers - should
be introduced. Scottish TV and Grampian TV introduced
a pilot scheme in 2001 are are now further developing
the project with Scottish Screen for 2002.
The scheme will commission thirteen half hour
television documentaries for broadcast on Scottish
TV and Grampian TV in 2002. It is also intended
that the films will be distributed by the companies
and by Scottish Screen in other markets.
We are looking for bright, original ideas about
aspects of contemporary life in Scotland. We
are also interested in style and presentation
and original ways of realising the subject matter
on screen. Budgets per production up to a maximum
of £18,000.
