documentary film group animated bannerThis is the animated banner that greets visitors to the new documentary website brought to you by the Documentary Film Group in association with the British Council. It's a one-stop shop for documentary, created especially for everyone interested in the art and craft of documentary filmmaking. The site will bringing the latest news and events from the global doc community, with more added every day.

The site has RSS newsfeeds available for download,  and features latest news and highlights on the front page, which is where they should be - other websites who bury news in some out of the way slot well away from their home page please take note.

There are subsequent pages for Events and Festivals followed by what promises to be a very useful online Directory aimed at documentary filmmakers,  Resources houses a  documentary  paperwork downloads resource covering everything from clearance letters to music licencing agreements all prepared by a top firm of entertainment specialist lawyers.

The Members section announces a soon-to-be networking forum as well as members-only discounts for Filmwaves, Showreel Magazine, cheaper cinema seats at selected screenings and other similar offers, all available for the dfg fee of £27.50 pa

Training page reveals the range of courses available from dfg held in London and at the group's film farm in Silesia, Poland.

This is an easily navigable website, clearly laid out and looks attractive. It makes use of some very amusing cartoon drawings that bring a touch of light humour suggesting  that while dfg  may have a serious purpose, it does not take itself too seriously.

It's a fresh and original design that transmits loads of information in easily digestible chunks. It is a surprise to learn that it is supported by the British Council (why not the UK Film Council?) which is the world ambassador for Britain's culture and has always been a strong supporter of British film, including documentary film.

Go visit, judge it for yourself and make use of a mine of documentary information.
