Chris Jones' has Gone Fishing at BAFTA

Chris 'Guerilla Film Superstar' Jones has his Oscar 2009-hopeful short Gone Fishing premiering at BAFTA Saturday night, accompanied with a full day's masterclass about the making of the Bill Paterson starer. Billed as Jaws for Kids, Gone Fishing was put into production after financiers told Chris they loved his feature film script, Rocket Boy, but would only let him helm it if he had some awards on the shelf.

Being behind the bible for indie film production apparently not accolade enough, Chris set out to shoot a 35mm high-production value short - microfinanced by volunteers - with a named cast and animatronic amphibians. And of course being the man he is, Chris was not content to simply make the film, but also had to share the fruits of a great learning experience, blogging the full process, with a further kit bag of insights offered at tomorrow's event. From concept, to script, to production, to edit and finally, to premiere – the one day seminar at BAFTA, will culminate in the black tie and posh frock premiere of Gone Fishing.

Gone Fishing Premiere! Jan 12th 2008

Directed by Guerilla Film Makers Handbook author Chris Jones, Gone Fishing is a moving and powerful 35mm short film, financed entirely by voluntary contributions.

Starring Bill Paterson (Miss Potter), Devon Murray (Harry Potter) and introducing young James Wilson, Gone Fishing is the touching tale of an old man as he tells the tale of how he caught the worlds biggest pike, Goliath… think Jaws, but for kids.

This one day seminar, to be held at BAFTA on January 12th 2008, will cover all aspects of production, taking attendees on both the creative and financial journey as this project evolved into the movie that will premiere that very evening! Attendees will receive unparalleled access to all script drafts, production notes, documents, schedules, budgets and story boards etc.

This is a terrific opportunity for any new film maker to learn how the film was made, go on the creative journey, and attend the premiere at London’s most prestigious film venue, ALL IN ONE DAY! Places cost £100 (inc VAT) and all proceeds will be used to offset production costs, or used to promote the film in a bid for major awards on the festival circuit. Places are limited. Gone Fishing, The Story...

Gone Fishing is a short film, shot on 35mm, and directed by Chris Jones. It is the moving story of a young boy and old man as they deal with bereavement through their love of fishing. The tale is wrapped around Old Bill’s story of how when he was a boy, he tried to catch the worlds biggest pike, making this unusual film ‘Jaws for kids!’

The Making Of...

'Gone Fishing' was shot at Bury Hills Fisheries in Dorking and at Ealing Studios in August 2007. It stars Bill Patterson and introduces young James Wilson, an astonishing newcomer to the screen. He is already receiving rave reviews on stage. It also stars Devon Murray from the Harry Potter series and British actresses Lynn Blakely and Ruth Gemmel.

VernonRenowned veteran DP, Vernon Leyton shot 'Gone Fishing', utilising a number of old school techniques, such as a stocking on the back of the lens, to give us astonishing beautiful and lyrical images.

We are currently in post production, and so far, we have learned loads new about film making. We will be launching an intensive one day course about how the film was made, where attendees will receive free notes and books on the production. If you buy this now, you can register to be an Associate Producer on the film. You can do this here…

In the mean time, if you want to know more you can read the blog here.
