LFS weekend workshop: Improvisation for Screenwriters in Film & TV, 26 & 27 July 2008

LFS Workshops presents:  Improvisation for Screenwriters in Film & TV with Sean McCann

Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th July 2008, The London Film School, Central London

Improvisation can be employed at any stage of the writing process; from the very first ideas to the penultimate draft of the finished screenplay.

"I was very inspired by finding a new working process in which to develop ideas as a writer/director. Sean McCann's techniques are fun, practical and insightful." Meloni Poole, 'Improvisation for Directors' participant, June 2008

This intensive, highly practical weekend course is designed to give writers a clear set of improvisational tools, as well as the opportunity to collaborate with other professional writers, actors and directors, using improvisation techniques to develop and improve their work.  Areas covered include:
  • Using improvisation to put scenes on their feet, and save hours drafting and redrafting at your word-processor.
  • Improvising stories from scratch
  • New ways of using classic story structure
  • Techniques for working with other people (writers, actors, directors etc) in order to create, develop and improve story outlines and screenplays
  •  Identifying weak areas in pre-existing work, and strengthening them
  • Using archetypal story forms as a basis of improvisation work

Sean McCann is currently the Head of Improvisation at The Oxford School Of Drama and also teaches Improvisation at East 15, The Actors' Centre, and The Advanced Performers' Studio at the Royal Academy of Music.
